What Should I Do If I Feel Overwhelmed During a Session?

Waji is designed specifically to be gentle and non-invasive. Our treatment sessions are structured to induce a sense of calm throughout, helping you stay grounded and in control.

If you feel overwhelmed during a session, here are steps to help:

Pause and Ground Yourself

  • It’s okay to stop the session momentarily to recenter. Grounding can help you reorient to the present.
  • Try this grounding exercise: Name three things you can see, hear, and feel.

Use Your Breathing

  • Take slow, deep breaths. Focus on extending your exhale, which naturally calms the nervous system.
  • Imagine your breaths soothing the overactive "alarm system" in your body.

Adjust the Depth of Your Work

  • Waji is designed to let you stay at a manageable level. If the intensity feels unmanageable, stay on the surface of your session focus. Remember, progress comes in steps, and you are in control.
  • If you feel overwhelmed for any reason, you can take a break from the app at any time or change your session focus to something lighter. It’s important to note that 90% of your session is not focused on the trauma event itself. Compared to other therapies where you might feel pressured to “go there” before you’re ready, Waji allows you to choose what feels right for you. No pressure, just progress.

Remember

The Waji platform works holistically to address trauma at its root by balancing past, present, and future. Trust in the process and the tools provided to help regulate your emotions and make healing manageable.
